What is the Eco4 Scheme?
what is the eco4 scheme is the final phase of the Energy Company Obligation (ECO). This is a government-funded scheme that makes UK homes more energy efficient, helps tackle fuel poverty and reduces carbon emissions.
Since it began in 2013, a total of 3.1 million homes have been improved through ECO. This latest phase – launched in 2022 – will help even more households by offering free energy-saving measures including boiler grants, insulation and solar panels.

ECO4 also offers support to those living in off-gas properties by offering free solar panels, as well as helping to address cold and damp in the home which can have negative impacts on health. It is worth noting that this final phase of ECO is a different scheme to previous ones and the criteria has been updated. For example, those who receive Disability Living Allowance or Income Based Jobseekers Allowance are no longer eligible for this scheme but those receiving Universal Credit may still be able to access ECO4.
If you think you could qualify for the ECO4 scheme we recommend using our simple grant checker. It only takes 23 seconds to find out whether you are eligible for a free energy-efficient measure. If you do qualify, your energy supplier will then contact you to arrange installation. We can install a range of energy-saving measures in your home including insulation, boiler replacements and air source heat pumps which harness renewable energy and can save you money on your energy bills.
