1.7. Intercellular Junctions

Fig. 1.7.13. Non-synaptic intercellular contacts between perikarya of two thalamocortical relay neurons in thalamic ventrobasal nucleus are sometimes called "filamentous contacts". The contacts consist of multiple confluenting adherent puncta (arrows). The function of these non-synaptic contacts is unknown. N - nucleus, P - perikaryon, m - myelinated axon. Scale = 1 µm.
